Looking to expand both their market appeal and export opportunities, the development of the FJ series of Land Cruisers was one of the wisest moves Toyota ever undertook. Land Cruiser was a hit, but there were customer demands for more choices so as to carry more people and cargo. One of the improvements was the introduction of the FJ-43, a bit longer it could accommodate six passengers and have room for luggage, or could tote a heavier load of cargo. In 1975 another legendary F2 engine was introduced. With a bit larger displacement and a few more horses, this powerplant’s real claim to fame was its low-end torque. With the FJ43 speed wasn’t as important as being able to climb up and out of a sticky situation. These Land Cruisers sold very well and were used in a myriad of tasks, they fit the bill Utility Vehicle just as intended when design.
One of the fastest growing segments of the collector-vehicle hobby are original, well presented off-road vehicles and Toyota’s FJ series is leading the way. This rarely seen FJ43 Open Top has been given an extensive frame off restoration that would rival any concours prepared full classic automobile. Finished in its original color of Medium Blue, the seats have been done in it’s factory correct interior and the rear side mounted seats for up to six more passengers. All of the mechanical systems have been gone through and this car looks better than when it was new. Originally sold in Columbia, the speedometer and odometer are in kilometers and that gauge package also presents as new. About the only up-grade we found was a upgraded sound system. This 1982 FJ43 has undergone a ground up nut restoration. No expense was spared on this show quality restoration. This SUV truly has the best of everything. All metal |
